Whilst you’re reading this, Christmas is probably dominating your thoughts, including the anticipation of indulging in plenty of turkey, chocolate and booze.
Training to run a marathon is probably the last thing on the menu, but if you are thinking of making a fitness related New Year’s resolution that involves testing yourself physically, then why not help a local charity at the same time?
If you want to be part of a team, get fit and feel good about yourself and also raise funds for Action Deafness whilst having fun, then why not become one of Action Deafness’ Hairy Haggis Heroes for 2010?
Action Deafness is a local charity that works with deaf, hard of hearing, deafened and deafblind children, young people, adults and older people across Leicester, Leicestershire and the East Midlands.
In May 2009, six teams of four volunteers took part in the ‘Hairy Haggis’ Team relay in Edinburgh. The event is run alongside the Edinburgh Marathon, so participants get to experience being part of the atmosphere, whilst running a shorter distance.
The relay is run in four legs, which are approximately divided into 8 miles, 5 miles, 8 miles and another 5 miles.
This year’s marathon is taking place on May 23rd 2010 and the Action Deafness team are looking to improve on last year’s fantastic achievement and take ten teams to Edinburgh.
They are now taking entries for the relay, the half marathon and also the full marathon, so there’s something for everyone.
The team can also offer full support with all of your fundraising activities and events, and provide a fundraising pack complete with tee-shirt and handy tips for training and fundraising.
