Community Media Awards

The Community Media Awards 2009 demonstrated the skills that the volunteers involved in the Community Media Hub have to offer.

The night was a glitzy affair, with attendees taking the opportunity to dress up smartly and celebrate a fantastic year. Awards ranged from Best Event Organised, through to Best Article Written and showcased the talent of the Editors and citizen reporters involved.

Over 150 supporters from across the city and county attended the awards evening, including Rupal Rajani from BBC Radio Leicester and 14 post-graduate students from DMU’s Leicester Centre for Journalism. Earlier that afternoon, six of the students had interviewed Editors of the various news agencies and Simon Parker from Leicester Libraries, to find out more about their personal motivations and experience.

The event took place exactly a year to the day from moving into the Learning and Information Library and with over 2,500 volunteer hours achieved every month, it has been an exciting rollercoaster ride. The Special Olympics was celebrated, as this event more than any other was captured by film, photograph, print and radio across the social networking and community media services used by the citizen reporters.

Congratulations to everyone involved!
