As we speedily approach the festive season and talk turns to Christmas shopping, spending time with the family and those all important Christmas parties, Soar Magazine wanted to take a look at pampering and preparation for the party season, but from a male perspective…
Increasingly more men show an interest in wanting to physically look after themselves and their appearance. We sent two of our very sceptical male readers for a couple of hours of pampering to see if it did indeed leave them feeling as amazing as it does for the girls.
Kiran and Ed had a two hour treatment experience at Femi Health and Beauty Clinic, which has recently expanded to a brand new location on Highcross Street.
The Urban Spa retreat boasts a wealth of treatment rooms, all highly finished with a cool, calm atmosphere. With its open, bright and airy reception area, softly piped relaxation music and smells of aromatherapy oils, the overall appearance of the salon is unthreatening and un-intrusive.
Femi’s recent launch saw Tigers stars Scott Hamilton and Brett Deacon checking out the premises and raving about the treatments.
Scott Hamilton said: “The treatments cater for both men and women and it’s great to see that the premises are well thought out. I am delighted to lend my support.”
On the back of the Tigers’ recommendation, we booked our guys in for a Men’s Decléor Facial and a Jessica Treatment Manicure. This package included a spell in the Relaxation Room (serene, warm, dark and sweet smelling) both pre and post treatment and a couple of extremely strong coffees, for dutch courage, thrown into the mix.
On arrival, Kiran and Ed chilled out in the bright and airy conservatory, before being guided into the male only changing rooms. Here they swapped their usual clothes for fluffy white robes and slippers. After a 15 minute spell in the relaxation room it was off to the cosy, chilled and informal double treatment room.
Both men had facials to suit their skin type which lasted around forty minutes. Each treatment deep cleansed and exfoliated their skin and was combined with massage techniques and skin care which improved circulation and cell renewal.
Post facial, our guys were escorted downstairs for their manicures. Their two dedicated therapists made a start explaining every single step of the manicure and what its benefits were.
Soon enough the guys’ conversation turned to what they were doing at the weekend and what they were wearing. Random questions flew about cuticles, skin care tips and what they could do to prevent bad skin through the party season. The original nervousness and negativity had seemingly vanished and was replaced with a new polished and shiny outlook on pampering!
