More Than A Game is more than another sports DVD, it’s the life story of one of the biggest stars in US basketball and an inspirational account of the enduring bond between five teenagers who used basketball as a vehicle on their journey into adulthood.

LeBron James is now one of the most recognisable faces in the NBA, playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers and picking up a multi-million dollar salary. More Than A Game shows his early days as impetuous, yet hugely gifted young man and tells the tale of how he and his best friends took the High School basketball scene by storm.

James and three other players, Dru Joyce the third, Sian Cotton and Willie McGee, known as the Akron four, due to Ohio town they hailed from, made their name playing for the local St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.

Later joined by Romeo Travis, the team brushed a side nearly all their opponents and came to national prominence, with James in particular receiving acclaim from supporters, the media and world famous NBA stars like Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

The 2009 documentary film follows the team’s progress as their coach, Dru Joyce the second, father of Dru Joyce the player, attempts to keep them on the straight and narrow both on and off the court.

Providing a unique insight into the development of one of the most talented players of his generation, More Than A Game also shows how friendship and loyalty transcends sport.

With plenty of spectacular footage from the team’s crucial games and interviews and commentary from the players and the coach, the film is both informative and entertaining.
