Members of the local community are set to cycle from Braunstone Leisure Centre to Mablethorpe on Friday April 23rd to raise money for charity.
Participants, who attend the FAB (Food and Activity Buddies) Healthy Lifestyle Groups, Calorie Killers and In2Shape, will be attempting to cycle the 120miles to raise funds for the Mablethorpe Children’s Home.
Also The Lord Mayors chosen charity, the Children’s Home is close to the heart of many of the people taking part as it provided their only opportunity for a holiday as children.
Many of those taking part in the ride face their own health challenges, which in the past have prevented them from taking part in physical activity. Joining the groups has helped them to overcome health barriers and change their lives for the better.
The team of 25 are training daily to prepare for the challenge and volunteering their own time to raise money, plan local rides and source donations.
Dave, one of the Calorie Killers taking part in the challenge is a smoker. He has lost over two stone since coming to the group after recently cutting down following a health scare.
A great character, who motivates and inspires the group to take part, Dave is up for trying to quit and doing anything he can to raise awareness of the benefits of exercise and reducing or quitting smoking.
Anything that can be donated in support of the challenge would be greatly appreciated and will mean more money can be raised for the Children’s Home.
