National Family Week, a Government backed initiative, has selected Leicestershire to be one of just nine flagship areas across the UK to host a large-scale Family Week Picnic on Monday May 31st, as part of the week long celebrations.

Organised by Leicestershire County Council, the picnic will take place at Snibston Discovery Museum following the success of their event last year. The 2009 picnic was part of a national attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Picnic across Multiple Venues.

Thousands of picnickers are once again expected to come out in force all across the UK on the bank holiday Monday, which marks the first day of National Family Week.

Leicestershire is one of nine areas selected to be the hub of the UK-wide celebrations. A wealth of activities will be available for families to enjoy at Snibston Discovery Museum, providing the perfect recipe for a fun, free day out.

Jane Nethersole, Operations Director for National Family Week, said: “Snibston Discovery Museum managed to deliver a first class picnic event in 2009 as part of the Guinness World Record attempt. They provided a fantastic fun day out for families and as a result of this, it was unanimous amongst the team that of the applications to host a flagship Family Week Picnic in 2010, Snibston was a definitive must.

“We have every confidence they will once again provide families in Leicestershire with a great opportunity to spend a fun-filled day out together and do the East Midlands proud.”
