The latest news agency to be started is the eleventh under the Community Media Hub banner, called ‘Community Action Photographers’ or CAPs.
The aim was to create a group of motivated community photographers, who could share their personal images representing their community of faith, no faith, interest or geography.
Andy Williams has become the first editor of CAPs and has been busy uploading other volunteers’ images to the web based, Flickr Photostream.
CAPs will lead the way in creating photo journalism style coverage of community issues and will support the other Community Media Hub news agencies when they require images for publication, or their own events.
The fantastic photos from our Community Media Awards, covered in the last issue of Soar Community, were taken by Neil Williams and he has become involved in the set up.
Tara Gatherer has also joined the editorial team. Her set on the site features empty retail units in Hinckley and starts the project currently planned for Leicester city centre.
Each of the volunteer photographers submits images for their own set and links are placed back to where they normally publish their images, for example, Flickr, Facebook or MySpace.
If you want to volunteer and become a ‘CAPA’ or ‘Community Action Photographers Associate’ take a look at the Flickr Photostream at www.flickr.com/photos/citizenseye
