According to the latest statistics released by Sport England, participation in sport across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland has increased to 17.6%. This is based on results from the Active People Survey which measures the number of adults (16+) who regularly achieve at least 3 x 30 minutes of moderate intensity sport every week.
In isolation this figure may not seem too impressive, but compared with results from four years ago, it represents a 2.4% increase. What’s more, against the national average our county boasts 1.1% more participants.
Leicestershire is also out-performing all neighbouring counties and has rocketed up the national rankings achieving a very credible number two position for the percentage of adults, aged 16+, swimming regularly (at least once per week).
‘No Strings Badminton’ is a fantastic example of how Leicestershire is playing more sport. These unique sessions give people the chance to play Badminton without committing to regular attendance or investing in equipment.
The huge success of this programme has largely been achieved through a close partnership with the Active Together teams around the county.
Currently there are two sessions, one at Loughborough Leisure Centre and one at Hermitage Leisure Centre. Future sessions are planned at Huncote, Lutterworth and Harborough Leisure Centres.
