Is this the ‘Most Active’ Family in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland?

To celebrate National Family Week, which runs from May 31st to June 6th, Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport are searching for the most active local family.

Whilst many families jet off to the sun and spend 14 days by the pool or thrill seeking in theme parks, 10-year-old Georgia Wood from Rothley in Leicestershire has issued her family an epic challenge… to cycle from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea!

Together with her parents, Lisa and James and grandparents, Jennifer and John Tillotson, Georgia is now in training for her epic 450 mile cycle ride which begins on July 19th.

As well as a mileage challenge, Georgia is aiming to raise £1000 for Dogs for the Disabled. The family’s aim is to complete this unbelievable trip in twelve days, which means they will have to cycle between 22 and 37 miles a day.

Along the way Georgia intends to maintain regular contact through her on line ‘blog’ which will be filled with stories and pictures designed to include everyone in her wonderful journey.

Even though Lisa and James work full-time in very demanding jobs, quality family time together is top priority. Lisa said: “We are no different to other families, we enjoy family walks, family cycle rides and annual skiing holidays all together – it is just what we do.”

Not only will Georgia and her family be cycling everyday but they will be pitching a tent every night and carrying all the things needed for the trip, such as tents and clothing on their cycles.

If you think your family deserves the title of ‘most active family’ and for your chance to win great prizes, send your story to Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, detailing how you are all active together – and the benefits this brings.

You must be 18 or over to enter and your submission is limited to 100 words. If possible, please also send a photograph of you and your family in action.

Include your full name, address and telephone number and send to j.newberry@lboro.ac.uk or to Jo Newberry, Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, 3 Oakwood Drive, Loughborough, Leics, LE11 3QF.

The closing date is 6th June 2010. More details, including full terms and conditions, can be found by visiting: www.lrsport.org.uk/familyweek
