East Midlands’ Netballers Get Hotter with Fast Net

On Saturday June 19th, netballers from the East Midlands will come together to showcase Fast Net and celebrate the success of the netball talent within the area.

Over 250 people are expected to attend The Fast Net game and presentation ceremony held at Loughborough University’s Netball Centre. Ex-England player and Netball Superleague coach, Olivia Murphy, will be putting veteran county players through their paces, showcasing a hotter version of Netball called Fast Net.

The popular new version of the game was first played last autumn at the inaugural World Netball Series in Manchester, with the top six netballing countries all competing throughout a three day tournament.

Olivia Murphy, who coaches Netball Superleague team Loughborough Lightning, said: ‘I’m really excited to be coaching the county players. It’s so important that we encourage netballers to adopt Fast Net as it’s a brilliant adaptation of the traditional format and provides experienced players with new challenges. It’ll be fun for everyone and I guarantee it’ll be a hot contest on court!”

Following the on court action, end of season presentations will take place to celebrate the achievements of the region’s netballing stars. This includes the Loughborough Lightning awards, their Netball Talent League and the East Midland’s Regional Talent and Regional Competition winners.

Regional Goalden Globe Awards, supported by California Prunes, nominees and winners will be also announced. Last year Carol Spencer won the Goalden Globe Mary Bulloch Administrator Award and as a regional winner went on to the national award ceremony and claimed the national accolade.

Hayley Peel, England Netball’s East Midland’s Regional Manager, said: “The awards are a fantastic event which bring netballers of all levels in the area together so that we can celebrate the fantastic players and volunteers we have in the region. Everyone was so pleased for Carol last year and we’re hoping some of our finalists will share national success again this year – good luck and well done to everyone!”
