Leicester Children’s Council want to invite young people living across Leicester to get involved in making the local news.
Wot Box media projects are taking place in libraries all over the city, to support young people in developing the skills they need to become a young reporter in their very own communities.
The Wot Box projects run from libraries in Braunstone, New Parks, Saffron, Beaumont Leys, Evington, St Barnabas and the Central Lending Library, and are open to any young person aged between seven and 13-years-old.
The sessions see young people learning new techniques like interview skills, article writing and photography.
Will Sturgess, aged 11, a member of Leicester Children’s Council, said: “The Wot Box projects are a brilliant way of getting young people to have a voice and report on issues that are important to them.
“I have been able to write lots of news articles about things that are important to me like Mini Moto’s, ASBO’s and my work went into the newspaper. I love seeing my work in print.”
Leicester Children’s Council would like to support young people to become community reporters and produce news articles for Leicester’s very own young people’s newspaper, Leicester WAVE.
