SoarTV recently spoke with England football legend and former Leicester City goalkeeper, Peter Shilton, at a special charity event held for ex-footballers, called Xpro.
England’s most capped player was joined by Leicester snooker legend, Willie Thorne, who hosted the fundraising evening held at Leicester City’s Walkers Stadium.
Xpro helps former players that have developed debilitating illnesses and was formed by Bob Runham and Geoff Scott, a former player at Leicester City and Stoke City.
Many players from previous generations of the game suffer from debilitating conditions as a result of their football career, which now affect their quality of life.
With the huge amounts of money that swell around the highest level of the modern game it’s important to remember that football hasn’t always been that glamorous and financially rewarding, with many former players being constrained by maximum wage, poor quality pitches and archaic medical treatment.
Over 400 guests attended the fundraising dinner which was organised by Champions UK and also included a charity auction.
See below for Peter and Willie’s views on Xpro.
