Tickets for Curve’s autumn season went on sale on Wednesday May 18th. The exciting new programme features three Curve productions, two Curve co-productions and two Curve collaborations, as well as a host of visiting work from the very best in innovative and classic drama and dance companies.
Paul Kerryson, Artistic Director at Curve said: “I am pleased to announce Curve’s autumn 2011 season of work. We open with a Curve co-production and dance World Premiere from Akram Khan, followed by a thrilling mix of contemporary drama and new writing. Musicals also form a key part of our season, including true Broadway glamour in our Christmas production of 42nd Street.”

13th – 17th September
Following Vertical Road, which opened at Curve last September prior to successfully touring to London, China, Australia and Europe, Akram Khan returns with Desh. Desh is a solo dance performance by Khan himself, inspired by and reflecting on his homeland of Bangladesh, which will be created in Leicester by the award-winning choreographer.
14th October – 5th November
Volatile and dark, humorous and thought provoking, this stage adaptation of the classic 1962 novel by Ken Kesey, will be directed by Michael Buffong.
10th November – 3rd December
Sam Shepard’s Buried Child (pictured above) offers a nightmarish family reunion in a truly eerie thriller. This Pulitzer Prize winning play will be directed by Paul Kerryson, whose previous studio successes include Martin McDonagh’s The Pillowman, The Lieutenant of Inishmore and Steven Berkoff’s East.

3rd – 8th October
A Curve co-production with Out of Joint and a new play following a young aid workers journey to the Congo.
Classic plays on offer include the magnificent National Theatre production of An Inspector Calls (23rd September – 1st October), direct from its fourth West End season. Following the success of Twelfth Night in 2010, Filter return to Curve with their fast-paced, unique version of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Nights Dream (31st October – 5th November).
14th – 19th November
Autumn features two popular and timeless musicals; Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers and Curve’s Christmas Production of 42nd Street, directed by Paul Kerryson. Leicester Theatre Trust has a national reputation for musical theatre, and this Christmas the excitement of Broadway comes to Leicester with this spectacular musical. Packed with famous songs and breathtaking dance routines, 42nd Street is a perfect treat for all the family.

Also for Christmas, younger families can enjoy the spellbinding adventure Room on the Broom (6th – 17th December) from the creators of The Gruffalo, and Nick Butterworth’s One Snowy Night (22nd December – 7th January) in the Studio. Little Curve is also presenting five shows throughout October which are created with younger customers and their families in mind. They take place in a friendly setting and tickets are just £5.
There is a rich selection of entertainment throughout the season, including the Bollywood Extravaganza Britain’s Got Bhangra (4th – 8th October) and the improvised musical phenomenon Showstopper! (29th September).
The Festival of Choirs (12th November) returns to Curve for a second year, Curve are also collaborating with the Centre for Indian Classical Dance to present an Indian Classical vs Contemporary showcase (28th October) and an urban variety show is on offer with Urban Mix (29th October).
The season theme of comedy continues with a series of comedy one-nighters including Hardeep Singh Kohli – The Nearly Naked Chef (30th September), 2Funy Comedy Show (1st October), Paul Foot’s Still Life (11th October) and Gruntled Andy Parsons LIVE (11th November).
Autumn in Leicester sees the largest Diwali celebrations outside of India. The celebrations at Curve include Bachchan Haule Haule (27th October), a local grassroots comedy show, inspired by the great Bollywood movies and performed in Guajarati and Hindi. Audiences can also be dazzled by Amaas (30th October), a fusion of contemporary dance, South Asian dance and circus with fire eating, stilts and more.
