Two sports-mad runners from Leicester City Council are appealing for local businesses to support their forthcoming fundraiser for three charities.

Anne Newbery (42) and Holly Battisson (30) work together as Sports Regeneration Officers for Leicester City Council’s Sports Services section.

Later this weekend, (Friday July 22nd) the duo, who are also keen footballers, will run 18 miles around the city, stopping off at nine of the local authority’s sports centres en route where they will try out a number of Olympic sports.

The fundraisers are now urging Leicestershire companies to come forward to provide running clothing and accessories, sports drinks and gels, or sponsorship with which to pay for them. In return the women have agreed to pose for photos throughout their challenge in shirts sporting their sponsors’ logos and use the company’s names in publicity material.

The event will raise money for local charities LOROS and Wishes 4 Kids as well as the national Sue Ryder Care campaign.

The idea was the brainchild of Anne, a prolific fundraiser who has raised hundreds of pounds already for Sue Ryder Care through previous organised races.

“Holly and I are looking forward to the run. It is our biggest challenge yet but we are confident of getting round it in one piece, raising lots of money for charity and hopefully having a bit of fun in the process,” said Anne.

“We would love to hear from any local companies that may be able to support our efforts, either financially or by providing any products that may make the miles fly by a little easier on the day!”
