Takeover Radio is calling for budding young sports reporters to join its team of presenters. The community radio station run ‘by and for young people’ based in Leicester’s Abbey Park is looking for new recruits – especially those with a passion for sport.

Takeover Radio is a charity that broadcasts across Leicester city on 103.2 FM and via the internet across the world. Young people aged between 11 and 14 who are enthusiastic about sport, are being called upon to join the team.

Whether you’re a fan of football, rugby, cricket, basketball, motorsports or all of the above,  the station is encouraging young people to get involved. Takeover’s new sports reporters will get the opportunity to commentate, present, produce shows and interview local sports stars.

Takeover is calling for young sports enthusiasts to get in touch as it prepares to launch its new sports show which will be broadcast on Saturday afternoons. Budding reporters must therefore be available every Saturday between 12pm and 6pm.

Being part of the Takeover team offers valuable experience of a busy working environment and gives young people the confidence to work as an individual and as part of a team. Former young reporters at Takeover have gone on to enjoy successful careers in the media including positions at BBC Sport, Sky Sports and Real Madrid TV and have also won scholarships to university journalism courses.

Many young people join us as children keen to try something new and leave the station as confident young adults with a wealth of experience. We’re delighted to be bringing new team members on board and look forward to receiving applications.”

Takeover is also looking for new members to join its crew. New recruits will take part in a 10-week training course to teach them all about radio. Following their training, new members can take part in The Next Generation programme which is broadcast on Sunday evenings. Members pay a one-off fee of £25 to join the crew.
