Some of Leicester’s best young sporting talents will represent the city in a national competition next month.
Ten youngsters aged between 12 and 15 have been selected to represent Leicester in swimming, golf and badminton at this year’s International Children’s Games in Lanarkshire, Scotland, which take place between August 3rd and 8th.
The event is the biggest of its kind in the world, with over 1,500 competitors from more than 70 countries taking part. The games are also recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
All the athletes selected have been highly recommended by their respective national governing body officers for their consistently high standard of performance.
Leicester Assistant City Mayor with responsibility for heritage, leisure and sport, Councillor Piara Singh Clair, said: “The whole experience of competing against other young people from different countries and cultures will be a hugely positive and inspiring one. I’m sure it will be something they will remember and treasure for years to come.”
An official send-off reception for the team will be held this evening (Monday August 1) at 7pm in Braunstone Leisure Centre.
