Final Curtain Call for Blue Sox Manager

Leicester Blue Sox Baseball Club celebrates their fifth anniversary at Western Park this Sunday.

And the manager who started it all five years ago will use the occasion to bow out on a successful career, which has included a national and divisional title in the previous two seasons.

Mark Meredith started the club from scratch in 2006 and has worked tirelessly ever since, not only to ensure baseball was available in Leicester to all comers but that the team was successful on the diamond.

From humble beginnings playing friendly games in 2006 on whatever land the club could find, to two consecutive national finals in 2009 and 2010, the club has continued to move forward under Meredith’s stewardship.

As well as manager, Meredith is the club’s longest serving player. Sunday’s game will be his 70th competitive game for the Blue Sox as the first team face-off against their second team in a BBF Midlands regular season double header.

A carnival like atmosphere is expected with a number of special events planned to mark the occasion. The celebrations start just before first pitch at midday and anyone is welcome to come down to Western Park to watch what is expected to be a festival of baseball fun.
