Leicester City arguably delivered their most complete performance of the season, as Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side defeated table-toppers Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 at King Power Stadium.
A superb performance by the Foxes ensured that City defeated a side top of the league for the second consecutive game at King Power Stadium, following last month’s 3-2 victory over Southampton.
The margin of victory should have been greater, had it not been for a controversial decision by the match official. After nineteen minutes, Vassell was fouled by Marcos Painter; however the referee failed to play a clear advantage as Lee Peltier ran onto the ball before firing it into the back of the net – a strike which should have been City’s opener.
It was a decision that the referee knew he had got wrong; instantly apologising to every player in City blue.
The winning goal came from an unlikely source, as Yuki Abe headed Darius Vassell’s magnificent cross beyond a helpless Casper Ankergren in the Albion goal, sending the home support into rapture just before the half time interval.
