Leicestershire v Australia Tickets On Sale

Tickets for Leicestershire’s eagerly-anticipated one-day match with Australia on Thursday 21st June are now available to buy.

Australia play just two warm-up fixtures before the five-match ODI series against England, with demand to see the tourists expected to be high.

Leicestershire would advise members and supporters to buy their tickets early, in order to guarantee your seat, following the speed with which tickets for the touring game against India sold out last season.

Leicestershire and Australia have been involved in some cracking games over the years since the country first played in the county in 1878.

Leicestershire’s finest hour came in the Championship winning year of 1975, where the team beat the tourists by 31 runs.

Brian Davison’s majestic 189 helped Leicestershire post 370 and Australia replied with 313-4 declared.

Barry Dudleston (80) and John Steele (87*) put on an opening stand of 165 as County made 217-2 declared in their second innings.

That set a target of 275 and Australia fell short after good bowling from captain Raymond Illingworth (3-80), Jack Birkenshaw (2-33) and Balderstone (2-54). Doug Walters was left stranded on 102 for Australia.

The great Donald Bradman played against Leicestershire in 1930 and 1934 at Aylestone Road, the historic ground which is now home to Leicester Electricity Sports Cricket Club.

Bradman made an unbeaten 185 in 1930 in a game where he took his first-class tally past 1,000 runs and then made 65 four years later before being bowled by George Geary.

Both of matches resulted in draws and Bradman then visited Grace Road after the War.

Bradman made 81 before being caught behind by Paddy Corrall of the bowling of Bill Etherington in a handsome innings victory for Australia, in which Keith Miller scored 202 not out.

Australia last played at Grace Road during the epic 2005 Ashes series. Chris Rogers’ double century against his country of birth helped Leicestershire draw the three-day match, while Australia won a 50-over game by 95 runs.

Supporters with a membership for the 2012 season can now purchase tickets at the reduced price of £10 for adults and £1 for under-16s.

Non-members can purchase tickets in advance for £13 for adults and £5 for under-16s, while those prices increase for adults to £15 on the day should any tickets be available.

To book tickets for the game, call 0871 2821879 or for more information on Leicestershire County Cricket Club visit www.leicestershireccc.co.uk
