Leicester Lions Launch Season With Karlsson’s Testimonial

The line-up has been confirmed for Leicester Lions rider Magnus Karlsson’s testimonial, to commemorate his 10 years of service to British speedway.

The event is sponsored by the Leicester Mercury, and will take place on Saturday March 17th at 7:15pm.

The testimonial will launch the Leicester Lions’ second season in the British Premier League, and a host of big names will join Karlsson at D94K1645 2 Leicester Lions Launch Season With Karlsson’s Testimonial Beaumont Park.

Patrick Hougaard and Rory Schlein, who ride in the Elite League for the Belle Vue Aces, finished first and second in Leicester’s Pride of the Midlands meeting in October.

Schlein, 27, was one of Karlsson’s team mates at Edinburgh when he first came to the UK in 2002, and although he has a busy start to the season, the Australian said:

“I have four meetings in four days to start the season but I’ve known Magnus for some time and it would be wrong if I didn’t do his meeting!”

Leicester-born rider David Howe has also been confirmed for the meeting. He currently rides for the Scunthorpe Scorpions, who face the Lions in a pre-season friendly on the eve of Karlsson’s testimonial.

“I would have been a little bit offended if Magnus hadn’t asked me,” Howe said. “We spent a lot of time together at Wolverhampton and Scunthorpe, and we always got on fantastically well.”

“I very much enjoyed riding in the same team as him, I’m pleased he’s got a Testimonial and I hope it all goes well for him.”

Daniel Nermark, who recently rejoined Kings Lynn, will compete for the Swedish Select, alongside brothers Freddie and Ludvig Lindgren, and Rye House Rockets rider Linus Sundström.

The Leicester Select will include Lions loanee Lasse Bjerre, his brother Kenneth and ‘The Flying Finn’ Kauko Nieminen.

Peter Adams who manages the Wolverhampton Wolves joins Eric Boocock, Mats Olsson and Jason Attwood as a team manager for the evening.
